country of heaven : Turkey

Tourism in Turkey is focused largely on a variety of archaeological and historical sites, and on seaside resorts along its Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. In the recent years, Turkey is also becoming a popular destination for the SPA and health care tourism. Turkey’s largest city, Istanbul, has a number of major attractions derived from its huge historical status as capital of the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. These include the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (the “Blue Mosque”), the Hagia Sophia, the Topkapı Palace, the Basilica Cistern, the Dolmabahce Palace, the Galata Tower, the Grand Bazaar, and the Pera Palas. Istanbul has also recently became one of the biggest shopping centers of European region by hosting malls and shopping centers like Metrocity, Akmerkez and Cevahir Mall (which is the biggest mall in Europe and second largest shopping center in the world). Major cultural and historical attractions elsewhere in the country include the sites of Ephesus, Troy, Pergamon, House of Virgin Mary, Pamukkale, Hierapolis, Konya (where the poet Rumi had spent most of his life), Didyma, Church of Antioch, religious places in Mardin (such as Deyrülzafarân Monastery), and the ruined cities and landscapes of Cappadocia. (see List of Archaeological Sites Sorted by Country-Turkey) Beach vacations and Blue Cruise, particularly for Turkish city-dwellers and visitors from Western Europe, are also central to the Turkish tourism industry. Most beach resorts are located along the southwestern

Bergen, Norway (Part One)

Recorded September 1, 2008. Bergen is the second largest city in Norway, with a population of 252 051. Bergen is an important cultural center in its region and was one of nine European cities honored with the title of European Capital of Culture in 2000. This video begins as I sail down the Byfjorden Fjord and under the Askøy Bridge on the Sea Princess. Bergen is one of the wettest places in the world so the bright sunshine overhead was a nice bonus for this beautiful city. After docking near the city center I started my tour of the city. The first stop on the tour is Fløibanen, a funicular to the top of Mount Fløyen where there are spectacular views of the city. Fløibanen is Bergen’s biggest tourist attraction and one of Norway’s most visited sights. It is the only funicular cable car for passengers in Scandinavia. After descending from the mountain our tour concludes with a drive around the city. In my Bergen Part Two video I explore the city center on foot. From: timvp.com

My most beautiful places in Athens: Porto Leone (Piraeus Lion) – The World (cruise ship) passed by

My most beautiful places in Athens: Porto Leone (Piraeus Lion) – The World (cruise ship) passed by The World is a ship serving as a residential community owned by its residents. The residents, from about 40 different countries, live on board as the ship slowly circumnavigates the globe — staying in most ports from 2 to 5 days. Some residents live onboard full time while others visit their floating home periodically throughout the year. It is operated by ResidenSea, headquartered in Miramar, Florida.[1] At one time ResidenSea’s headquarters were in unincorporated Miami-Dade County.[The World flies a Bahamas flag and has a gross tonnage of 43524 tons. The vessel is 644 feet (196 m) long, 98 feet (30 m) wide, and has a 22-foot (6.7 m) draft, 12 decks, and a maximum speed of 18.5 knots (34.3 km/h). The crew numbers 250. The ship has 165 residential units (106 apartments, 19 studio apartments, and 40 studios), all owned by the ship’s residents. The ship carries between 100 and 300 residents and their guests. The World was the idea of Knut U. Kloster Jr., whose family had a long history in the cruise ship industry. The ship was built in Rissa, Norway, by Fosen Mek. Verksteder A/S, and launched in March 2002. ResidenSea in Miramar, Florida, remained the management company responsible for operations and administration of the ship, including hiring the hundreds of employees that offer services such as housekeeping, beauty treatments, photography and other amenities. The residents
